"RIGHT OFF the Web site slugged home sicktexan.blogspot.com comes this news: The slogan "Don't Mess With Texas," dreamed up by the Austin advertising agency GSD&M, grabbed top honors recently in the third annual Advertising Week's Most Popular Slogan competition. It beat out Nike's "Just Do It," Burger King's "Have It Your Way" and "Got Milk?" among many others. Speaking of "Got Milk?" I would ask "Got Kids?

If so, you might want to buy them Madame Goldberg's new "Whoopi's Big Book of Manners," with cartoons by Olo. Excellent.

If you want a musical education for your offspring, try Karen LeFrak's real-life story of "Jake the Philharmonic Dog," illustrated by Marcin Baranski. Jake is the orchestra mascot. The author is a board member. "Jake" is the perfect vehicle to introduce children to the world of classical music.

“If you're the horsey type, try Christopher Cerf and Paige Peterson's inspiring work "Blackie: The Horse Who Stood Still." If you loved Ferdinand the Bull, then your kids will love Blackie as seen by Cerf and Peterson."
